A Chinese man has been arrested for Homicidal Attempt on his wife by pushing her off a cliff during a trip to Thailand.

Wang Nan 32 is three months pregnant and had survived the 34 meter (111Ft) fall in Pha Taem Park Ubon Ratchathani Province on june 9 even though she sustained fractures in her left thigh, arm, collar bone and knees. Her baby was unharmed.

Wang initially told the police that she had fallen off the cliff but the Police suspected foul play following investigation, Wang finally accused her husband Yu Xiaodong 33 of pushing her off the cliff because he wanted her fortune of 100million Baht (2.5m pounds) to pay off his accumulated debts. A tourist found her lying wounded on the trail after she stumbled down the cliff.

Police Colonel Chamchai Innara, Commander of Khong Chiam Destrict said they found the husband standing at a distance of the scene from rescurers after the fall, the Police became suspicious. An interpreter in Chinese also overhead Wang saying ‘why did you do that to me?”.

Wang told officers that the presence of her husband at the hospital prevented her from telling her story because he threatened to kill if she told the Police what happened.

Police arrested Yu Xiaodong. He and wife were in Thailand for business, it is alleged that the couple’s assets comes from Wang, Yu is from a poor family. He was in debts and wanted Wang to settle the debts but she promised to only pay half of it.

Police is seeking court’s approval to extend Yu’s detention for investigation. Yu has denied the attempted murder.
