EBOLA OUTBREAK IN WESTERN UGANDA

The 50 year old grandmother has died of Ebola disease in Western Uganda, a day after her 5 year old grandson died.

The Grandmother and Grandson had traveled across the border of Democratic Republic of Congo on sunday where they were suspected to come in contact with an elderly male relative who later died. The 3 year old brother of the dead boy has also died while four other household members have been repatriated to Democratic Republic of Congo.

They were the first two cases reported in the country since the virus spread from the neigbouring Democratic Republic of Congo which had killed nearly 1400.

Three people have been qurantined while three suspected Ebola patients have escaped the isolated Centre.

This would not be the first Ebola case in the country, it was reported in 2000, 2007 and 2012. The epidemic was said to be the worst since 2013 – 2016 which has showed no sign of stopping according to Dr. Jeremy Fatrar, Director of the Welcome Trust.

Ebola Epidemic has killed 11,310 people in West Africa between 2013 and 2016.
