Aretha Franklin died of Pancreatic Cancer on Thursday 16 August 2018 at 9.50am in Detroit, she was 76 years old.

She was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis Tennessee where she grew up with her father Rev. C.K Franklin in Detroit. It was in her Father’s new Bethel Baptist Church that she learned the gospel fundamentals that would make her a soul institution.

She was a mother of two children by the time she was 16 years. She married her manager Ted White in 1961 and the marriage ended in 1969. She then married Actor Glynn Turman in 1978 in Los Angeles but she had to return to Detroit to be with her father who was semi-comatose from bullets by burglars until he died in 1984. it was that same year that there was a divorce between her and her husband.

Aretha started her professional career as a teenager , had her first Album titled “PRECIOUS LORD’ (TAKE MY HAND) at the age of 14. By her mid-twenties, she was already a superstar. She recorded hundreds of tracks and had dozens of hits. Twenty of her albums hit number one in R&B charts.

She won 18 Grammy awards and became to be the first woman inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. She was awarded National medal of the by Bob Clinton, she also got a presidential medal of freedom, the highest civilian honors in 2005 by president Gorge W. Bush.

Her songs include ‘THINK’ ‘I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER’ and her signature song ‘RESPECT’ in 1967 which was a number one hit.

She performed at President Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

She was last seen publicly at Elton John’s AIDS FOUNDATION gala in New York in November 2017.
