ESTHER’S DIARY-DAY 5

Akanni had asked his father for money but was  turned down. Father had asked him what he wanted to do with the money and Akanni had flared up. In his motor park voice Akanni had said

‘baba e gbe eyn se’egbe joor, e tewo bo apo ki e se kini? Ki e gbe something jade jare”

Meaning (old man forget that joor, just dip your hands into your pockets and bring what? Bring something out joor)

Father looked at Akanni with barely concealed anger.

“well Akanni, I don’t have money to give you. Just take a look at you you , a child from a noble home who has turned himself to be a tout. Sometimes I wonder if you are from my loins. You are such a bad example to your younger ones.

As father turned to leave, he caught mama Akanni’s displeased eyes looking murderously at him.

The circuit fuse in Akanni’s head seemed to overheat and all of a sudden it blew as he jumped up like a wounded lion.

He grabbed his father by the neck of his agbada attempting to throttle him screaming in his brash  motorpark tout voice.

Cold beads of sweat ran down fathers brow as he tried to suck in the much needed breath denied him by Akanni’s firm grip.

Mama Akanni made little efforts to get father freed from Akanni. She merely hoped from one leg to another lamely calling Akanni and father to stop the scuffling.

The uproar attracted some bold men who wrestled Akanni to the ground freeing father from Akanni’s murderous mission.

Father felt flat with his buttocks to the ground needing oxygen in his starving lungs as he started with ignominious defeat.

A truculent  Akanni couldn’t be calmed and  he fought frantically to free himself from his captives as he was dragged from the scene.

A smug look of expression came upon mama Akanni when she looked towards father who rose up ungracefully from the ground

He cursed Akanni and told him he had disowned him as a son.

After father uttered those words he  saw the ominous sign that he had danced the macabre dance it was just a matter of time to find out the rhythm.
